"Me and My Uncle #1" by Moody
Piece: “Me and My Uncle #1” Original acrylic on canvas
Date: 2026
Artist: William Moody
Size: 30” x 30”
Notes: Gallery August West is excited to announce an exclusive collaboration with Asheville, NC artist, William Moody.
“I love those cowboys, I love their gold
I loved my uncle, god rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, I grabbed that gold
And I left his dead ass there by the side of the road”
“Me and My Uncle #1” is the first painting in a two-part series by William Moody, drawing inspiration from the outlaw mythology of the American West and the storytelling spirit of the Grateful Dead.
Rendered in Moody’s bold, minimalist stencil style, the composition unfolds like a cinematic final frame. A lone rider and two horses move slowly down a winding desert road toward a blazing red sun, the monumental rock formations of the Southwest rising in the distance. In the foreground lies the unmistakable silhouette of a fallen cowboy. The smoke drifting from the rider’s cigarette adds a final note of calm detachment - an outlaw disappearing into the horizon.
The piece relies on stark graphic contrast. Deep black silhouettes set against an electric red desert and glowing yellow sky to create a scene that feels both timeless and mythic. Like the song that inspired it.
“Me and My Uncle #1” is the first of two in the series, each executed with different color treatments while sharing the same underlying narrative composition. They each form a modern visual homage to the outlaw ballads, desert imagery, and psychedelic-era storytelling that continue to influence Moody’s art.
If interested in adding a floating wood frame, please add “Custom Framing Quote Request” to your cart and complete the required form. We will reach out and work with you to deliver your turnkey vision for this piece.
*Original Artwork Notice
This painting is an original work of art. Unlike the giclée prints or apparel derived from the image, this original has not been digitally reworked or refined to perfect lines or color fields.
As with most original artwork, the piece contains subtle variations in color, slight edge softness, and minor imperfections inherent to the process. These characteristics are consistent with original studio work and are considered part of the artwork’s authenticity and character.
