The August West Grading System
While some of our pieces are graded and encapsulated by third-party companies such as CGC, most of our historic pieces exist outside of those slabs. For works not formally graded, we have developed the August West Grading System — a qualitative framework designed to give you a clear understanding of how a piece will present when displayed.
This system is not meant to replace professional grading. Rather, it provides practical insight into visual impact, structural integrity, and collectability.
It’s also worth noting that many of our collectors actually prefer pieces with a bit of honest wear. Subtle signs of age — pinholes, edge wear, soft folds — often serve as quiet visual confirmation of authenticity to the discerning eye. Character is just part of the story.
